PROJECT DIGNITY BOSTON

Because period poverty exists close to home, too.

Introduction

Project Dignity Boston is TASSEL's local initiative to support vulnerable youth in Greater Boston with menstrual and hygiene essentials while empowering young people to become advocates for period equity, dignity, compassion, and social impact.

Led by members of TASSEL Rising—our community of middle and high school changemakers—the initiative transforms awareness into action through service projects, dignity kit assembly, community partnerships, and advocacy.

Statistics

  • 1 in 4 U.S. students have struggled to afford period products.

  • 39% of teens say they cannot do their best schoolwork because they lack access to period products when needed.

  • 44% of teens report feeling stress or embarrassment due to a lack of access to period products.

  • 37% of teens say they would feel more comfortable asking an AI chatbot about periods than talking to another person—highlighting how much stigma and discomfort still surround menstruation.

Our first community partner is The Home for Little Wanderers, which helps build stable lives and hopeful futures for children and adolescents who have experienced abuse, neglect, trauma, homelessness, or other at-risk circumstances throughout the Greater Boston region.

TASSEL Rising members assemble dignity kits containing menstrual and hygiene essentials, along with friendship bracelets carrying messages of encouragement, support, and solidarity.
